Project Overview
A major US municipal water agency was in need of an emergency repair to a 54-inch Pre-Stressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP). Augmenting the Engineer of Record, STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES was contacted to assist with the repair and supply materials.
The pipe segments that were distressed were identified as part of a comprehensive asset management program implemented to identify and address multiple spool segments of distressed pipe. After assessing the repair areas, STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES supplied a V-Wrap™ carbon fiber system to be installed. This method of repair was the fastest, least disruptive, and most economical solution.
The V-Wrap™ carbon fiber liner was installed by STRUCTURAL within the deteriorated pipe sections. It was specifically designed to resist all internal pressure and external loads, by assuming the full loading condition of each designated pipe spool segment.
Even with the emergency situation and time constraints, the project was successfully completed on time.
