Strengthening Studies Top Summer Reading List

As part of my summer reading list, I’ve been reading a few technical papers from American Concrete Institute’s (ACI) Structural Journal.

Kim, I., Jirsa, J., & Bayrak, O. (2015). Use of Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer to Provide Continuity in Reinforced Concrete Beams under Dynamic Loading. Structural Journal, 112(3), 383-396 details the investigated behaviors of rehabilitated reinforced concrete beams under dynamic loading. Testing three types of reinforced concrete beams, results indicated that anchored CFRP sheets successfully provided continuity to the positive reinforcement under dynamic loading. Matzke, E., Lequesne, R., Parra-Montesinos, G., & Shield, C. (2015). Behavior of Biaxially Loaded Slab-Column Connections with Shear Studs. Structural Journal, 112(3), 335-346 tests of four non-prestressed concrete slab-column connection subassemblies under simulated gravity and earthquake-type loading were conducted. This research is aimed to provide a better understanding of the effect of shear stud amount and layout on the behavior of slab-column connections. (Read the full paper)

Some great studies being conducted in strengthening of structures. What’s on your summer reading list?
