EPRI Buried Pipeline Integrity Group Conference Presentation
In February 2014, STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES and PSEG co-presented at EPRI’s Buried Pipeline Integrity Group conference on the completed pipeline structural upgrade project at Hope Creek Nuclear Station. The EPRI session was given by STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES’ Anna Pridmore, PhD, and PSEG Nuclear’s Jim Melchionna.
The Hope Creek project consisted of installation of STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES’ V-Wrap™ carbon fiber system on seven segments of 144-inch PCCP. The installation phase had to be implemented and full cure of the material achieved within a limited time frame. Along with a compacted schedule, there were several other challenges which affected the project from pre-planning through implementation discussed in detail throughout the presentation. Some of these included utilizing a single access point and changes in pipe elevation.
An important key to project success, the quality control program was rigorous and in-depth, with participation by a 3rd party inspector, full time quality assurance manager and multiple owner representatives. Details about the quality control program and process are contained in the presentation.
Attendees at the conference benefited from direct operator experience feedback regarding pipeline repair and upgrade utilizing the V-Wrap™ carbon fiber system. Read more information on how Hope Creek proactively addressed their pipeline.
